Be Healthy and Safe Week

All the children at Greenacres ditched their usual timetable week commencing 22nd May 2017 for practical lessons around keeping healthy and safe. We had many visitors in school to deliver hands-on workshops to the children, including St. John Ambulance, Oldham Mountain Rescue, State of Mind, Road Safety, Oldham Sports Development and a karate instructor.

The school's 'Health Champions', two year 5 pupils who deliver regular health messages to each class, have planned and taught every class a lesson on working out how much sugar is in their breakfast cereal and advice on sugar swaps. Because the message is coming from their peers, the children have all responded extremely well.

Every class also started running a mile each day around the school grounds and most achieved that every day during the week and this is something which we hope to carry on with every day in the future. Each class has also completed a 'wake up, shake up' session each day this week, something else which we hope to continue everyday in the future.

Parents have been invited into school to attend the workshops with their children.

These key health messages are vital for our children and the hope is that we make permanent life-long changes to children's lifestyles and their own understanding of how they can keep themselves healthy and safe.
